The Burnin Burren - 155km - http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/177273834
This year we revert to some of the old and some of the new !!!!!
Leaving Ballyvaughan we head out the Galway Road through Bellharbour and up the first climb , the Ballaghdine. Short @ 500m in lenght but with a gradient of 10% it will pinch the legs. On up the new line and to Boston ( Co Clare ) and into the foot of Glann Hill, otherwise known as the Mini Corkscrew ! Several switchbacks and short enough at 3km but worth it for the view at the top, into Carron and down Ballyalban, taking a left and into the base of the Corkscrew Hill, the usual favourite..... Nearly 5 km from the bottom to the top you should enjoy it ! The road surface is good and you should glide up the Corkscrew and look forward to a well earned break in Lisdoonvarna afterwards.
After tea we head down into Doolin and turn left for the bottom of last years dreaded Castle Hill. Come on give it another go you can do it.... it's 26% at its worst but short ! At the top turn right and over the Cliffs of Moher with a mad descent into Liscannor, turn left outside the village and up Doonagore, 5km of a slow drag. At the top a hard right and a long decsent into the outskirts of Lahinch, a sharp left and after1 km to a right over the bridge and into Ennistymon. Left and 1km right into Kilfenora and onto Lisdoonvarna for another cuppa. Well earned again !! The legs are burnin now but the sight of home is nearing fast.
So for home we go, back out to Doolin and this time we turn right and head for Ballyvaughan by the beautiful scenic coast road.
Food stop 1 @ 65km
Food stop 2 @ 120km
The Burren Ramble - 87km http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/177274960
This year we go out the Galway Road into Bellharbour and turn right. After another 1km turn right again and up the climb into Carron, 4km long, nice and steady. Here you will meet the 160km cyclists and all will come down Ballyalban and into the foot of the Corkscrew Hill for the cat 2 climb. The road surface is new and enjoy the screnery as you climb. From the top it is 8 km to a break and after 55 km done, it will be a well earned break. The second half of this spin is only 37 km long and is to be enjoyed as you circle the coast back to Ballyvaughan. You will have all the hard work done before the break.
Food stop @ 55km
The Burren Circuit - 55km http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/177275510
This year we revert back to the Corkscrew Hill from the start which is 5km long with a good surface. It is well within the bounds of all cyclists. We have food in Lisdoonvarna after 16km and you will have 37km home along the coast afterwards. Logistically its not possible to make the food stop any later during this spin so enjoj the break when you get it and pedal like mad home along the coast road to Ballyvaughan.
Food stop @ 16km
