About

This is the 10th year of the Tour de Burren as a sportif. The event started all those years ago when the members of the Burren Cycling Club got together and organised a 'local spin' for the members and other entuuasists that were interested. The spin, soon became an annual event and interest grew, especially with the lure of brown bread and smked salmon at the food stop in Lisdoonvarna!

In 2009, The Irish Sports Council secured funding from An Post, to provide support to five cycle events in Ireland. Local Sports Partnerships had to prove that they had the capacity to hold an event of such a magnitude in their county.Clare Local Sports Partnership was one of the five succesfull LSP's, as they quickly developed a strong working relationship with the Burren Cycling Club. This was the begining of the An Post Tour de Burren.

Today, the five events of the An Post Cycle Series are based in Sligo, Clare, Meath, Waterford and Cork. 1n 2012, over 13,500 participants took part in the events.
